MUMBAI: HDFC Bank, India's second largest private sector lender, raised its key lending rate or the base rate by 25 basis points to 7.50 per cent effective Tuesday, the bank said on its website.

The increase follows a tightening policy by the Reserve Bank of India, which has raised its key lending rate or the repo rate by 125 basis points since mid-March, including a quarter per centage point rise in mid-September.

HDFC Bank had raised its rates on some deposits by up to 50 basis points effective Sept. 24.
